Protest procession in Manikchari to protest killing of Bandarban army officer Habibur Rahman

The CHT Citizens' Council has staged a protest and human chain in Manikchhari demanding arrest and trial of the killers of senior warrant officer Habibur Rahman, who was killed in an attack by tribal gunmen on an army patrol in Bandarban.

 The protest procession and human chain was held at Manikchhari Amtala in Khagrachhari district today (February 8) at 11 am.

Abu Taher, senior vice-president of the central committee of the citizens' council, was present as the chief guest at the protest rally conducted by Zahidul Islam under the chairmanship of district committee vice-president Moktadir Hossain.

Lokman Hossain, General Secretary of the District Committee of the Citizens' Council, Md. Jalal, General Secretary of the District Committee, Md. Sahab Uddin, Convener of Manikchhari Upazila, Md. Yunus of Ramgarh Upazila spoke on the occasion.

Speakers at the rally said that the tribal guerrilla terrorist group in the Chittagong Hill Tracts is establishing a reign of terror through murder, rape and extortion. He attacked and killed the army which had brightened the face of the country on foreign soil. How safe are the common people there? He urged the government to make the hilly region livable by conducting combing operations to ensure the safety of the common people in the hilly areas.
