Ambassador's request to Maldivian government to recruit new staff from Bangladesh

, Honorable High Commissioner Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad held a courtesy meeting with Honorable Minister of Economic Development of Maldives Mr. Ismail Fayyaz,

The meeting was held today, Thursday, September 8.

 At this time, the Maldivian government was requested to quickly legalize Bangladeshi undocumented workers and recruit new workers from Bangladesh. In addition, there was a detailed discussion about health care, housing, facilitating the system of sending remittances through legal channels and ensuring various facilities according to the agreement of expatriate Bangladeshis working in Maldives, and the honorable minister was requested to take measures to implement a sustainable policy in this regard. Hon'ble Minister emphasized on legalization of undocumented workers and requested for speedy legalization. He mentioned that if this is not done, disciplinary action will be taken against the recruiters and irregular expatriates. Due to recent increase in death of expatriate workers due to heart disease, it is requested to take necessary steps to prevent it and to increase awareness about regular health check-up and treatment of expatriate workers.

Also, there was a discussion about increasing the trade relations between the two countries and the visit of the trade delegations of both the countries. Honorable Deputy Minister of the Ministry Mr. Riaz Mansoor and Mr. Maryam Nazima and First Secretary of the Mission Mr. Md. Sohail Parvez were present during the meeting.
