Pirganj Administration Destroys Harmful Saplings
Pirganj, Thakurgaon:
The Pirganj upazila administration in Thakurgaon has initiated a campaign to destroy environmentally harmful eucalyptus and akashmoni saplings. On Wednesday afternoon, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rakibul Hasan led a drive across 15 nurseries in various areas of the upazila, specifically targeting these saplings.
Officials present during the operation included Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Nazmul Hasan, Additional Agriculture Officer Nihar Ranjan Roy, Khaled Mosharraf from the Upazila Agricultural Rehabilitation Implementation Committee, Animal Resources Officer Ranjit Chandra Singh, and other officials from the upazila administration.
Agriculturist Nazmul Hasan reported that during the operation, 110,300 eucalyptus and 4,200 akashmoni saplings were destroyed. Subsequently, affected nursery owners were compensated with BDT 458,000 from the agricultural rehabilitation assistance fund. The administration stated that these operations will continue in the public interest.
