Low-Quality Road Work Halted by NCP Leader Hasnat Abdullah in Debidwar

Md. Al Amin, Special Correspondent, Debidwar (Cumilla)

In Debidwar, Cumilla, the chief organizer (Southern Region) of NCP, Hasnat Abdullah, halted the carpeting work of an LGED road due to its substandard quality.

On Monday, at 5 PM, while Hasnat Abdullah was on his way to an event in his area, he received complaints from locals and went to inspect the road. This road is a crucial communication link for about 20 villages in the Upazila's Subil, Fatehabad, and Rasulpur unions. The prolonged delay in completing the work had caused immense public suffering.

He himself was able to pick up the freshly laid asphalt with his fingers. Accusing the road work of being substandard, he instructed the Upazila Engineer to stop the work.

Upon receiving the news, Upazila Engineer Shobuj Chandra Sarkar visited the site. He spoke with Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer (Southern Region) of NCP, and assured him that the work would be completed quickly.

Upazila Engineer Shobuj Chandra Sarkar stated that approximately five years ago, in 2018, M/s Artar and Yested International Co. Ltd. was awarded the contract for about 2,000 meters of road work from Abdullahpur in Rasulpur Union to Burirpar Bazar in Subil Union. The estimated cost for this project at that time was around BDT 2.25 crore. Although the contractor initially objected to completing the work at the current market price, they began the carpeting under pressure. The work was carried out by former Subil Union Chairman Abu Taher Sarkar (former Vice-President of Subil Union Awami League). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the time, the carpeting was not done for four years after the macadamization. The work remained stalled for a long time. In May of this year, under the current government's tenure, Abu Taher Sarkar resumed the carpeting work. Today (Monday, June 23), upon inspecting the site, Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer (Southern Region) of NCP, raised objections about the carpeting. If the work is not completed in the current fiscal year, it will have to be included in the next budget.
