Meeting of the Bangladesh Embassy with the speaker and former president of Maldives

 Honorable High Commissioner Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad paid a courtesy call on Honorable Speaker and former President of People's Majlis of Maldives Mr. Mohammad Nasheed at Majlis office. The meeting was held today, Tuesday, August 23, during which the First Secretary of the Diplomatic Office and Head of Chancery Mr. Sohail Pervez and the Secretary General of the ruling party in Maldives Fatima Nyusa, along with senior officials of the Ministry were present.

 They mentioned the excellent relations between the two countries and kindred people.

The Honorable Speaker praised the extensive development of Bangladesh's agriculture sector and highlighted the need for joint initiatives for the development of agriculture in Maldives. He referred to the recent progress of Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and praised the Sheikh Hasina government for making Bangladesh a role model of economic development in the world. At one stage of the discussion, the Honorable Speaker also expressed his interest and consent to visit Bangladesh to see the development and overall condition of Bangladesh. Also, the Honorable High Commissioner requested the Honorable Speaker to maintain the facilities of expatriate workers working in Maldives and to take necessary measures to recruit new workers from Bangladesh. Finally, the discussion ended with the commitment of these two South Asian brotherly countries to further increase bilateral cooperation.
