Maldives Awami League organized Sheikh Kamal's birthday discussion meeting and prayers.

 A prayer and discussion meeting was held on the occasion of the 73rd birth anniversary of martyr Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of the great architect of freedom Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great architect of independence, the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at 11:00 pm on Friday, the capital of Maldives, under the direction of the organization's organizing secretary, Mizanur Rahman Anis. Alhaj Dulal Madbar, president of Maldives branch of Awami League, was the chief guest at the event

The chief guest said that Bangabandhu's eldest son Sheikh Kamal was a bright star in the sports and cultural arena of newly independent Bangladesh. He brought the concept of modern football in the country.

A successful football club like Abahani was established due to his efforts.

General Secretary Md. Dulal Hossain, who could not attend the event due to physical illness, told our correspondent on motophone that Sheikh Kamal and Bangabandhu family members have contributed a lot to the country's independence and other achievements.

Vice President Shahjalal Sikder said, Sheikh Kamal, a graduate of social science from Dhaka University, was associated with other cultural organizations including Chayanot and used to play the sitar himself. He has outstanding contribution in the great liberation war.

Joint general secretary businessman Nure Alam Rintu said, August is the month of mourning, the month of brutal killing of Bangabandhu and his family. After the killing of Bangabandhu, the anti-independence forces tried to spread misinformation against Sheikh Kamal and other members of the Bangabandhu family.  Senior vice president of the party Haji Md. Sadek Joint General Secretary Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan, Finance Secretary Gazi Zahid, Co-Finance Secretary Md. Delwar Hossain, Muktijudda Secretary Md. Rafiqul Islam, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Md. Aliullah, Co-Cultural Affairs Secretary, Abu Russell Hawladar were present on the occasion. Member Md. Sohail and many others were present, Md. Abul Kalam Azad, deputy office secretary of the party could not attend the event due to physical illness.

It should be noted that Sheikh Kamal was born on August 5, 1949 in Tungipara village of Gopalganj district. He is the second sibling. Sheikh Kamal passed SSC from Shaheen School and HSC from Dhaka College. After passing HSC examination, he passed BA (Hons) from Department of Sociology, Dhaka University. After the war he left the army and returned to Dhaka University. From there he completed graduation and post graduation in sociology. He learned sitar from Chayanot.

The eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, one of the organizers of the liberation war, sports organizer, culture organizer and social thinker, hero freedom fighter, martyred Captain Sheikh Kamal.
