Tragic death of two farmers in Naogaon; 2 injured

Two farmers were killed in a lightning strike while harvesting paddy in Porsha, Naogaon district.
The incident took place at Raghunathpur and West Duarpal grounds of the upazila around 8:30 am on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Nuh Sheikh, 55, son of late Arshad Ali of West Raghunathpur Tektha village in Porsha upazila and Abu Sayem, 35, son of Nuhul Islam Mistry of West Duarpal Islampur.
According to local sources, Samad Boro was harvesting paddy at Raghunathpur field, Noah Sheikh and West Duarpal field near Punarbhaba river in heavy rain on Friday, May 13 at around 8:30 am. They died on the spot when there was a sudden thunderstorm with rain. Other farmers in the field rescued their bodies.
On the other hand, two persons including a woman named Jahanara Begum of Bangalpara village were injured in a lightning strike while working near their house in West Raghunathpur field. They were rescued and admitted to Porsha Upazila Health Complex.
Porsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahurul Haque confirmed the deaths of the two victims and said that the relatives of the deceased had taken the bodies home.
Porsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hamid Reza said government assistance was provided to the victims of natural calamities. In that continuity, each family of the deceased will be given financial assistance of Tk 20,000 and Tk 40,000. Besides, people have been sent to verify the authenticity of the injured. If the incident is true, their family will be given financial assistance of 10 thousand rupees.
