Courtesy call on the new Foreign Secretary of the Maldives at the Bangladesh Embassy

 Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Maldives paid a courtesy call on newly appointed Foreign Secretary of Maldives Abdul Latif. According to sources, the courtesy call was held to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.

 The Hon'ble High Commissioner described the Maldives as one of the most important friendly countries and the relations between the two countries are very good on various issues of mutual interest. Beyond the boundaries of this excellent relationship, it has now expanded to include diplomatic relations as well as business, trade and various other fields.


The courtesy call was made last Sunday (May 22) at the Foreign Ministry in Male, the capital of the Maldives. On bilateral relations between the two countries, the Foreign Secretary said Bangladesh and Maldives are old friendly countries and important trading partners. Ongoing trade and economic ties between the two countries have the potential to grow. Looking at the progress of Bangladesh in the past years, I can see that Bangladesh has made incredible progress. The progress you have made in terms of economic development, poverty reduction is truly astounding and I am glad that Maldives-Bangladesh has been a partner in the progress made over the last ten years.


High Commissioner SM Abul Kalam Azad said the Maldivian government recently thanked the Maldivian government for giving Bangladeshi workers the opportunity to change companies and become legal, to play a significant role in combating the ongoing Corona epidemic and to provide assistance to expatriate Bangladeshis. He emphasized the importance of visa facilitation for enhancing bilateral relations, trade and tourism, as well as expanding bilateral ties. He further said that with the appointment of Bangladesh High Commissioner to Maldives, I look forward to further enhancing the relations between the two countries in the years to come.


During the meeting, the two countries agreed on various issues related to the development of bilateral relations and development through regional economic cooperation.
