One person sentenced to life imprisonment in arms case in Thakurgaon

A court has sentenced a man named Abu Saeed (28) to life imprisonment in an arms case in Thakurgaon. Other accused in the case Asaduzzaman Liton and Soleiman Ali have been acquitted.



Judge of the Special Tribunal-1 and District and Sessions Judge Mamunur Rashid passed the order at noon on Tuesday (February 1). The convicted accused Abu Saeed is the son of Badrul Islam of Lahuchad village in Haripur upazila.




 State Public Prosecutor Advocate Shekhar Kumar Roy said that on July 2, 2016, Harun Aur Rashid, Deputy Principal Officer of Kashipur Branch of Grameen Bank's Raninshakail Upazila, withdrew Tk 6 lakh from Sonali Bank Nekmarad Branch along with one of his peons.



 From there they set out for Maharaja Hat. When they reached a place called Durlavpur, Abu Saeed and Asaduzzaman stopped the victims and looted the money by showing fear.



The accused saw a police check post at Araji Chandan Hat village and tried to flee on a motorcycle. Police later arrested Abu Saeed and Asaduzzaman with the help of locals. At that time, a foreign pistol and ammunition along with a magazine were recovered from Abu Saeed and a bag of money was recovered from Asaduzzaman.



Later, SI Asgar Ali filed an arms case with Ranishankail police station. He further added that the judge had sentenced Abu Saeed to life imprisonment under section 19 (a) and five years rigorous imprisonment under section 19 (f) for the offenses under sections 19 (a) and (f) of the Arms Act, 18. .
