In Fatikchhari, 3 chairmen are on the way to be elected without contest

  Nurul Kabir Arman, Special Representative

Before the polls in Fatikchhari, there is a possibility that 3 chairmen will be elected unopposed in the Union Parishad (UP) elections. All the chairman candidates to be elected are nominated by Awami League. The second phase of elections will be held here on November 11.

The elected chairmen are- Sarwar Uddin Chowdhury Shahin, the current chairman of Lelang Union Parishad, Md. Abdullahpur, the current chairman of the union. Ahidul Alam and SM Solaiman, the current chairman of Baktpur Union Parishad.

According to the Election Office, 625 people submitted nomination papers for the 14th Union Parishad elections in the second phase. Among them, 57 were candidates for the post of chairman, 110 for the post of reserved member and 458 for the post of member. After verification, selection and withdrawal, 36 candidates will contest for the post of chairman, 105 for the reserved member post and 421 for the member post.

In the remaining 11 Union Parishads of this stage, 25 out of 33 candidates are independent candidates. A large part of the independent candidates are Awami League rebel candidates. The nominees are voting as rebels. As a result, there is a scattering of rebel candidates in the upazila this time.

Upazila Election Officer. Humayun Kabir told Alokit Chittagong that three Awami League chairman candidates are on their way to be elected unopposed in the upcoming elections. The rest will be selected. All our activities related to the election are in full swing. Hopefully we can give the gift of a fair selection.
