A teenager named Abu Shahadat Shahi Sardar (18) has gone missing while bathing in the small river Jamuna near Dakbanglo in Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon district.
The missing Shahi is the son of Ekramul Haque Babul Sardar of Sardarpara mahalla of Sardar upazila. He is a 1st year student of Munshi Abdur Rauf College, Dhaka.
According to his friends and family sources after his disappearance, he came to play football with his friends under the River City Parker on the south side of the new bridge in Sadar Upazila at 11am on August 26 (Saturday). After the football game, he went to bathe in the river at 1:15 pm. While the two friends were crossing the river after taking a bath, one of them got up but Shahi could not reach the bank. When he went to the river and drowned, he asked his friends for help. He drowned before other friends on the shore rescued him. His friends Maruf, Ratul, Masum and Bappa, who were with him, said, "We forbade him to cross the river many times but he did not listen to us. I never imagined that I would lose a friend like this while playing together. They have become speechless after losing their dear friend."
There is a shadow of mourning in the area.
Upon receiving the news, the rescue workers of the fire service are trying to rescue him. Incidentally, a 16-year-old boy named Pulak Chandra drowned at the same place this season last year.
