Shariatpur Isha student movement human chain demanding the government to play an effective role in protecting the leather industry
Nurul Kabir Arman, Special Correspondent:
A human chain has been held at Chowrangi Chattar in Shariatpur district under the chairmanship of district president Muhammad Ashiq Madbar to demand the government to play an effective role in protecting the leather industry.
Secretary of Islami Andolan Bangladesh Shariatpur District Branch Maulana Hafizur Rahman Shariatpuri was present as the chief guest at the human chain organized on Saturday 15 July.
The chief guest said, "The leather industry is under threat today due to the whims of the government. Once upon a time, there was a huge demand for Bangladeshi jute products abroad. Due to lack of coordination between the government and private entrepreneurs, the industry has almost collapsed and taken place in cold storage." There are many stories of burning ripe paddy without getting a fair price.
Similarly, in spite of the fact that leather goods are the second largest export product of Bangladesh, the industry is being endangered by the manipulation of the government and the capitalists. Exports abroad have also declined.
According to the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) last year, from the last 2014-15 financial year to the 2016-17 financial year, the average export income of Bangladesh from the leather industry was about ৫ 115 crore per year (amounting to 60 crore Bengali rupees). But in the 2018-19 financial year, his income decreased to কোটি 830 million. In this case, the income has decreased by 9 decimal 28 percent. If this continues, the light industry will have to face the same fate as the jute industry. "
At the same time, the central sura member of Isha student movement Hussain Muhammad Ilyas and others also spoke.
