To mark the 47th founding anniversary of the BNP, a discussion meeting and celebration were organized under the leadership of Shah Muhammad Taifur Rahman, the former elected president of Italy BNP, at Torpignattara in Rome.
During the meeting, a speech by the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Mr. Tarique Rahman, on the occasion of the founding anniversary was broadcast.
Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon, the BNP's Central Joint Secretary General and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, participated in the discussion.
Shah Muhammad Taifur Rahman Chhoton, the former president of Italy BNP, discussed the 31-point program for state reform in detail. From the meeting, he also demanded voting rights for expatriates and reserved parliamentary seats for them.
Other speakers at the meeting included former Vice President Hasanuzzaman Kamrul, Advocate Kamruzzaman, Mozammel Haque Dipu, Abdul Rahman Robin, Laila Shah, Shahidullah Akter, former Organizing Secretary Md. Selim, former Assistant Organizing Secretary AKM Azad, and former leaders of the Rome Metropolitan BNP, including Hazrat Ali, Abu Sayeed, and Mamun.
Speakers emphasized that all expatriate BNP organizations should take the initiative to make BNP politics in foreign countries more relevant by identifying and working to solve the local problems of expatriates. They noted that thousands of immigrants in Italy face various forms of discrimination and are losing their legal status, so the BNP must stand by the side of the expatriate community in Italy and adopt political programs to find solutions to their problems.
The founding anniversary celebration concluded with a formal cake-cutting ceremony.
