Daughter-in-law Accused of Beating Mother-in-law to Take Over House in Jaypurhat

 District Correspondent, Naogaon:

In Jaypurhat's Notun Hat, Saidur Rahman left his sick mother and wife at home to go to work. In his absence, his wife and her family allegedly attacked his ailing mother-in-law, attempting to force her to sign a legal document to transfer the house to them.

When asked about the incident, Saidur Rahman complained, "My wife, Mst. Shabana Begum, along with her elder sister Aleya, Aleya's two daughters Sonia and Subarna, my wife's middle sister Rozina, Rozina's son, my wife's younger brother Fahim, elder brother Ujjal, Ujjal's wife Moyna Begum, and Jesmin Akhter Sristy, the wife of the so-called martyr Mehedi who was killed by police gunfire during a police station raid—they all conspired to physically attack my sick mother in my own home, just a week after she was released from the hospital."

He added that the attackers beat his mother, intimidated her, and forcibly tried to make her sign a legal document to transfer their family house to their names.

Saidur alleged that this coercive act has severely impacted his mother's physical and mental health and is a clear conspiracy to seize their family property. He stated, "They constantly misuse the name of 'martyr's family' and use the threat of the Deputy Commissioner to intimidate anyone. For a long time, they have been trying to take over my house by using the Deputy Commissioner's name. Will they continue to use the DC as leverage for their criminal activities in society?"

Saidur called upon the local administration and journalists to investigate the matter and take necessary legal action. He mentioned that he has already filed a written complaint with the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police.

Saidur's mother, Afroza Begum, when asked about the allegations, said, "They hit me on my neck and back with a stick and forcibly told me to sign the legal document. Their attempt failed when neighbors came to my aid."

On the other hand, Saidur's wife, Shabana Begum, denied the allegations when asked for her comment.

Attempts to contact Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akhter Chowdhury via phone were unsuccessful.

When asked about the matter, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Wahab of Joypurhat district said, "To my knowledge, no such complaint has been filed."
