Daksu Election Press Cards Riddled with Errors
Minhaj Hossain, Special Correspondent:
The Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Daksu) and Hall Union elections are scheduled to be held on September 9. Press cards have been issued for journalists to cover the event, but many of these cards contain significant spelling mistakes in journalists' names and designations. This has sparked criticism on social media, and journalists have expressed their frustration.
According to the press cards issued, which were signed by the Chief Returning Officer of the Daksu and Hall Union Election 2025, errors are prevalent. Sheikh Nasir Uddin, Staff Correspondent of the Daily Sun, had his name misspelled as 'Sheikh Nasir Uddir.' His designation, 'Staff Correspondent,' was misspelled as 'Stff Correspondent,' missing the letter 'a'. The name of Md. Azharuzzaman, a staff reporter for Ekattor TV, was spelled correctly, but his designation was listed as 'Sir Reporter'.
Similarly, the name of Md. Azam Islam, an Apprentice Reporter for BSS (Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha), had his organization's name misspelled as 'Bangladesh Sangbad Sanghtha'. Jahedul Islam, a reporter for the newspaper 'Shomoyer Alo', had his name misspelled as 'Jahedui Islam'. While the name of Mahi Mubasshir Hasan, a staff reporter for GTV, was correct, his designation was misspelled as 'Ripoarter'.
Furthermore, Md. Harun-ur-Rashid, a Multimedia Journalist for Channel I, had his name written as 'Md: Harur-or-Rashid'.
