Saplings Distributed to Students and Farmers in Pirganj

In an effort to promote tree planting and raise awareness about environmental conservation, various types of saplings were distributed among students and farmers in Pirganj, Thakurgaon, under the agricultural rehabilitation assistance fund for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department organized the distribution of native fruit and forest saplings to 1,500 students at the Upazila Parishad premises. Each student received four saplings, one of each variety, including Neem, Jam (Black Plum), Bel (Wood Apple), and Jackfruit.

Separately, 125 farmers were given improved varieties of mango saplings, with each farmer receiving five saplings.

Present at the distribution were N.M. Ishfaqul Kabir, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Upazila Land Officer; Nazmul Hasan, Upazila Agriculture Officer; Niharanjan Ray, Agriculture Officer; Israt Jahan Lima, Additional Agriculture Officer; Abdur Rahim, Agriculture Extension Officer; Mofazzal Haque, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer; and representatives from local agricultural organizations, including Zainal Abedin Babul, President of Pirganj Press Club, Nosrat-e-Khoda Rana, General Secretary, and Mokaddes Hayat Milon, Vice President.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Nazmul Hasan stated, "The purpose of this sapling distribution is not just for fruit production, but also to combat the effects of climate change by protecting the environment and providing shade." He also announced that agricultural incentive programs would continue on a larger scale in the future.

This initiative has been welcomed by both farmers and students, who expressed hope that the regular implementation of such incentive programs will open a new chapter in afforestation and agricultural development.
