In Pirganj of Thakurgaon, a former UP chairman and his son have been accused of stopping the road paving work by demanding a contribution of Tk 5 lakh from a contractor by mentioning the names of Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, Swachhasevak Dal and BNP leaders. Shahinur Rahman, manager of Babu Contractors, made this complaint in a press conference at Pirganj Press Club meeting room on Saturday afternoon.
In a written statement at the press conference, he complained that they are working to pave a road in Shibbari area of Bhomradah Union of Pirganj Upazila. After the sand filling work, now the excavation work is going on. On October 16, around 11 am, a man named Alam from Milan Bazar area of the upazila approached him while he was working with labor and masons. At this time, Alam told him, "It is good that you are doing road work. A lot of work. There are leaders of Chhatra Dal, Juba Dal, Swachhasevak Dal and BNP. They have to pay. we are If we want to finish the work well, we all have to pay a contribution of 5 (five) lakhs. If you don't, you can't work. The former chairman of this union and BNP leader Khalil Bhai and his son Babul sent me. stop working They want to know when the money will be given. After paying 5 lakhs, the work will start. Work will be stopped until payment is made.”
Alam threatened him in different languages if he did not stop the work. Later, the contractor's manager stopped the road work under compulsion. Later that day at around 2:00 p.m. Khalil Chairman's son Babul came to the work site and told the manager Shahinur again "Let the work stop, first we will pay 5 lakh taka - then we will work, we will not work without money". If he starts working without money, Babul calls the journalist and makes false allegations and threatens to kill him. Shahinur sought the cooperation of everyone, including journalists, as they could not do the road work due to their threats and demand for money.
Regarding the complaint, former UP Chairman Khalilur Rahman said that he did not send anyone to anyone for money. False allegations are being made against his family.
