Press conference demanding justice for Tajin's murder in Pirganj

 Limon Sarkar (Thakurgaon) District Representative:

In Pirganj of Thakurgaon, a housewife named Tajin Akhtar was killed and her body was hanged, and allegations of suicide have been filed against her husband and other family members. More than two hundred women and men of the area, including Tajin's mother, brother and sister, held press conferences, human chains and protest marches to demand justice for others including her husband in this incident. On Tuesday afternoon in front of Pirganj Press Club, they held a protest march in the city after the press conference in the press club hall.

Tajin's elder brother Zakir Hossain of Raghunathpur village of Upazila said in a written statement at the press conference that his sister Tajin got married to Jewel Rana, son of Akbar Ali of Khekidangi village of Upazila four years ago. Since marriage, her husband, mother-in-law and other members of the family were often beating her for dowry. Her sister has a 2-month-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. After her sister Tajin Akhtar was physically tortured and killed by her husband Jewel, mother-in-law Achia Begum and others on August 23 afternoon, Tajin Akhtar's body was hung on the balcony of the bedroom with a bed sheet wrapped around her neck with an iron angle to divert the incident. When they got the news, they went to the spot and asked her husband Jewel Rana about Tajin Akhtar's death, but he tried to avoid the matter by making different excuses.

At that time Tajin's younger brother Tofazzal Hossain said that the police recovered his sister's body after reporting the incident to Pirganj police station. At that time, in the presence of people, the woman police constable, while preparing the postmortem report of the body, found her sister with swollen black veins above the knees and on her back.Pirganj police sent the dead body to Thakurgaon morgue for post-mortem but instead of taking the case of murder, they filed a UD case. After the post-mortem, no people from the family took part in the burial of his sister's body. It reveals the murder of his sister. In this incident, Tajin Akhter's family members went to Pirganj police station to file a murder case against Jewel Rana and those responsible on August 25, but the officer-in-charge expressed unwillingness to accept the case. They fear that they will be deprived of justice for the murder of Tajin Akhtar, including the escape of the guilty. Later, the local residents held a human chain and protest march in front of Pirganj Press Club and demanded the arrest and trial of the culprits.

In this regard, when an attempt was made to contact Jewel Rana, the husband of deceased housewife Tajin Akhtar, his mobile phone was found to be switched off.

In this regard, Pirganj police station OC Khairul Anam said that the issue of not taking the case is not correct. A UD case has been registered in connection with the death of housewife Tajin Akar. Necessary action will be taken after postmortem report.
