Campaign to prevent violence against women in Pirganj

A campaign to prevent violence against women was held for 3 days in Pirganj of Thakurgaon with the slogan "Speak up now to prevent all forms of violence against women". With the help of donor organization Netz-Bangladesh and organized by Manav Kalyan Parishad-MKP under the prospect project, on the closing day on Thursday, about 150 male and female members of CSO, who came in pickups from 6 unions of the upazila, toured the city through a rally in Pirganj town. The rally went to various institutions including Upazila Parishad, Pirganj Press Club and called for expressing solidarity with the program to prevent violence against women. Upazila Chairman Alhaj¦ Akhtarul Islam, Upazila Executive Officer Shahriar Nazir, Upazila Social Service Officer SM Rafiqul Islam, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Jinnatara Yachmin, Pirganj Press Club President Joynal Abedin Babul, General Secretary Nasrate Khoda spoke in solidarity with the campaign. Rana, senior journalist Deepen Roy, Bishnupad Roy, upazila manager of Manav Kalyan Parishad Roshan Ara Rozhi etc. At that time, male and female members of the CSO of the upazila, government officials, media workers and dignitaries were present.

At this time, the speakers said that most of the women in our society are victims of violence in one way or another at every level of the family, roads, workplaces, educational institutions, society and the state. Which is currently increasing. The situation of women is becoming more fragile due to increasing violence against women. One of the reasons for this violence is the socialization process of discriminatory attitudes towards women. This violence against women cannot be stopped only through legislation. Prevention requires a change in social discriminatory attitudes towards women, and this change will come through awareness raising. The first step in this awareness raising is a massive campaign to change the attitude towards women from the grassroots of the society to the state level. Which has to be done from one's own house to every level of society. From the policy makers to the field level, everyone has to work together to change the attitude and behavior of people of different classes and professions. Awareness songs are performed at various places during the rally round the city.
