Massive clashes between two groups at Saltha in Faridpur; Homes vandalized and looted

At least 12 people were injured, shops, houses vandalized and looted in a massive clash between two groups in Saltha, Faridpur. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals.

The clash took place at Gutti village of Mir in Gotti union of the upazila on Friday (June 24) morning.

During the clashes, at least 2 shops and 16 houses were attacked and extensive vandalism and looting took place. Upon receiving the news, the police rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control.

According to local sources, Turap Matubbar, a supporter of village Matubbar Chan Miah, and Abu Matubbar, a supporter of Ibrahim Khan of the same village, had been at loggerheads for a long time.

On Thursday (June 23) afternoon, Turap Matubbar, the brother of Turap Matubbar, a supporter of Chan Mia, was prevented from going to pick up the house by Turap Matubbar. At one stage there were clashes and fights between Turap and Abu Matubbar over this.

According to him, this (June 24) morning, Chan Mia's supporters attacked Torap Matubbar's house in Ibrahim's house.

Upon receiving the news, the police of Saltha police station went to the spot and brought the situation under control. At least 10 people from both groups were injured in the clashes between the protesters and the bricks. The injured have been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College and Hospital Faridpur and Nagarkanda Upazila Health Center.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saltha Police Station Sheikh Sadiq said a team of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. At present the environment of the area is calm, he said.
