Journalist shot dead by drug dealer; BMSF demands speedy trial

A journalist named Mohiuddin Sarkar was shot dead by a 'drug dealer' in the border area of ​​Burichang upazila of Comilla. The Bangladesh Mofsbol Journalist Forum (BMSF) has demanded exemplary justice by bringing the guilty persons under the law along with protesting and condemning it.


The incident took place in the urban area on the Indo-Bangladesh border around 11:15 pm on Wednesday (April 13), sources said.



The deceased Mohiuddin Sarkar was once working as the Brahmanpara Upazila Representative of Ananda TV. Later he was working as a staff reporter in 'Comilla Dak' newspaper published from Comilla.


Journalist Mohiuddin is a resident of Alua village in Malapara union of Brahmanpara upazila of the district. Locals say Mohiuddin Sarkar was shot dead by drug dealers.


Around 11:30 pm, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Burichang Police Station Alamgir Hossain told reporters that he did not know the details of the incident. However, I know that Mohiuddin was shot dead. His body is in Burichang Upazila Health Complex.


According to the Burichang Press Club, journalist Mohiuddin was killed while performing his professional duties. He was killed by drug dealers. The Burichang Press Club has demanded that the killers be brought to justice.


Sources further said that Mohiuddin Sarkar Naeem has recently been employed as a sepoy in the Narcotics Control Department.


His father is said to be working as SI in Akhaura police station of Brahmanbaria district.


Meanwhile, Bangladesh Mofsbol Journalist Forum-BMSF has demanded exemplary justice for the killers involved in the incident. In a statement, BMSF's Board of Trustees Chairman Ahmed Abu Jafar, Central Committee Chairman Sohail Ahmed and General Secretary Shibli Sadiq Khan expressed concern over the killings and demanded exemplary punishment for the killers.
