Nine sentenced to death, one sentenced to life in Naogaon's Badalgachhi murder case

A court has sentenced nine people to death and one to life imprisonment in the murder case of three youths in Badalgachhi, Naogaon district.

Judge Mahmudul Hasan of Naogaon Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court-2 pronounced the verdict on Monday afternoon.

The convicts are Saidul, Aizul Haque, Helal Hossain, Jalal Hossain, Belal Hossain, Zayed, Abul Hossain, Mostafa and Sohag Ali of Ujalpur village in Badalgachhi upazila. Among them Saidul, Zayed and Sohag are fugitives. The other accused were present in the court during the verdict.

Hashem Ali, a resident of Ujalpur village in Badalgachhi, was present in the court when the verdict was announced.

Prosecutors Mozahar Hossain and Abdullah Baki represented the plaintiff in the case. Lawyer Rafiqul Islam conducted the case on behalf of the accused.

Lawyers said each of the convicts sentenced to death and life imprisonment was also fined Tk 50,000.

It may be mentioned that the murder took place on June 6, 2014 in Ujalpur village of Badalgachhi upazila. The verdict in the murder case was announced eight years after the murder.

Observing the verdict of the case, Judge Mahmudul Hasan said, "This kind of murder is very tragic from a trivial matter. A message should be given to the society so that such killings do not happen again.
