Fugitive accused arrested in Naogaon murder case

RAB has arrested a fugitive accused in a murder case in Atrai of Naogaon district. The arrested accused is Shafiqul Islam alias Chhota Dhalu (25).
This information is known from a press release sent from RAB-5 on Sunday afternoon, March 6. The arrested Shafiqul is the son of late Lutfar Shah of Jaysara (Uttarpara) village of Atrai police station.
Abdus Chhamad and Mozammel Haque of Jaysara village in Atrai upazila are their cousins. There was a long-running dispute between them over the 12th century land of the homestead. Last Thursday (March 3) afternoon, Mozammel Haque tried to seize the disputed property but was stopped by Abdus Chhamad and his men. At this time there was an argument between the two sides. At one stage, they got involved in clashes with indigenous weapons and sticks.
Abdus Chhamad, Golam Mostafa, Abdur Sabur, Badhan Shah, Abdul Barik, Bedarun Nesha, Mozammel Haque, Jinnatun Mini and Majeda Bibi were seriously injured. They were admitted to Atrai Upazila Health Complex. Among the injured Abdus Chhamad, Abdus Sabur and Badhan died on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
A murder case was filed on behalf of the victim's family on Friday. After the case, the accused Shafiqul Islam was absconding. According to a tip-off, RAB-5 arrested Shafiqul Islam in a raid in Mahishdanga Piyadapara area of Naldanga police station in Natore on Saturday night. During the preliminary interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the murder.
Shafiqul has been handed over to Atrai police station in Naogaon. It is learned that RAB is continuing its operation to arrest other accused involved in the murder.
