Farmers are now weeping over the loss of topsoil of agricultural land.

Going to the spot, it was seen that wood burning was going on in some brick kilns. Piles of dust on the leaves of the trees on the side of the road beside the brickyard. The black smoke of the brick kiln is mixing in the air. Local roads have become dilapidated due to the movement of illegal trolleys carrying bricks. It has become unsuitable for the movement of vehicles. Yield of mango, blackberry, jackfruit and coconut trees has decreased. The buds of the mango tree are turning black and falling. The village wrapped in a green sheet has now turned pale. The field was full of crops. There was greenery all around. Now that form is no more here. Just a memory.

Ignoring the law, hundreds of illegal brickfields have sprung up in the settlements like a frog's umbrella. The local influential people are digging deep in the agricultural land with Beku in the dark of night and cutting the soil and supplying it to the brick kilns. Cropland is being destroyed. People are suffering from complex diseases including sneezing, coughing and shortness of breath due to the black smoke of brick kilns. People are at health risk due to illegal brick kilns and the government is losing billions of rupees in revenue. On the other hand, the natural environment is being severely damaged. The future is under threat.

Jalal Uddin, a farmer from Rohila area of ​​Daudpur Union, said, “I cultivate paddy in four bighas of land. But this year the land next door is being dug deep with Beku and the soil is falling into the hole created by the land next to it. He has expressed doubts about whether he will be able to cultivate paddy this year.

Abdul Khaleq, a farmer from Atlapur area of ​​Bholabo Union, said that the cultivators are cutting the soil of the agricultural land with Beku. Intimidation and assault cases are filed if obstructed. Irrigation projects use canals to block their use. As a result, cultivation is being disrupted due to water crisis.

Saidur Rahman of Birabo area of ​​Kanchan municipality said that all kinds of crops and plants of the area are being scorched by the black smoke of the brick kiln. Roads are muddy when it rains and dusty in the dry season. Illegal brickfields should be shut down.

Rupganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shah Nusrat Jahan said that several operations have been launched against illegal brick kilns. Several brickfields have been fined by mobile courts. The campaign continues. There is no compromise with illegal brick kilns polluting the environment.
