UPDF toll collector arrested with arms and ammunition during army operation in Matiranga

Army has arrested Lalon Chakma, 38, chief toll collector of UPDF (Main) in a raid at Matiranga in Khagrachhari. Army members of Matiranga zone conducted the operation in Sapmara area of the upazila on the basis of secret information around 9pm on Friday.
A foreign pistol, four rounds of ammunition, a receipt for extortion, cash and a mobile set were recovered from the detainee.
Earlier on August 5, the army raided the Matiranga and Guimara market areas and arrested two UPDF collectors, Chaila Pru Marma, 23, and Chathai Marma, 29, on charges of extortion. Lalon Chakma was arrested from Sapmara area on Friday on the basis of their information during interrogation.
The arrested terrorist has been handed over to Matiranga police after preliminary interrogation. Matiranga Police Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Ali said preparations were underway to file a case under the Arms and Extortion Act.
The Matiranga Zone Commander said that such operations will continue to improve the law and order situation in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and ensure the safety of the common man.
