Md. Al Amin, Special Correspondent

In Debidwar,Cumilla, a 16-year-old boy, posing as a customer, helped police arrest a drug dealer named Akter Hossain (45) with 505 pieces of yaba and nearly 1.75 kg of cannabis. The incident took place around 11 PM on Sunday, September 14, at Akber Sarkar's house in Kachisair village in the Allahabad Union.

The drug dealer, Akter Hossain, is the son of the late Kasem Sarkar from Kachisair village, located north of the Kachisair market in Allahabad Union.

Locals Kamrul Hasan Sohel and Mazharul Islam Bhuiyan reported that residents were frustrated by the harassment from Akter Hossain, who was an inter-district drug dealer and often acted rudely. Although he had been selling drugs for a long time, no one dared to speak up against him due to his connections with some influential individuals. A group of young people from the village decided to take action. They surrounded the drug dealer's house and sent a 16-year-old boy to buy yaba. As the boy was returning with the yaba, the group apprehended Akter Hossain. Several other customers, sensing the danger, managed to escape.

The police were called, and during questioning, Akter Hossain's house was searched, leading to the recovery of 505 pieces of yaba tablets and 1 kg 700 grams of cannabis.

Shamsuddin Mohammad Ilyas, the Officer-in-Charge of Debidwar Thana, stated, "We are uncompromising on the issue of drugs. The number of drug dealers and users has increased immensely in every village and neighborhood lately. It has become difficult to arrest drug dealers due to a lack of proper evidence."

He added that they continue to conduct 2-3 raids every week. The arrested drug dealer, Akter Hossain, was sent to court this afternoon.
