Italy-Born Brothers, Abdur Rahman and Abdur Rahim, Become Hafiz of the Quran
Minhaj Hossain, Special Correspondent:
Two brothers, who are citizens of Italy, have become Hafiz of the Quran. They memorized the entire Quran at a madrasa in Bangladesh and were honored with the ceremonial turban, a symbol of their achievement. Their father wishes to send them to Egypt to become Maulana.
According to the family, Abdur Rahman Hawladar (15) and Abdur Rahim Hawladar (13) memorized the entire 30 sections of the Quran in just seven months at the Jamia Arabia Darul Uloom Rajoir Madrasa, located in the Rajoir Upazila of Madaripur.
On Wednesday (September 17), after the Zuhr prayer, the school's principal, Mufti Rezaul Islam, presented them with their turbans at the madrasa mosque. They were also presented with flower garlands as a sign of congratulations. Their father, Mamun Hawladar, and local Islamic scholars were in attendance. Both Abdur Rahman and Abdur Rahim are the sons of Mamun Hawladar, a resident of Kuchiamora village in Madaripur Sadar Upazila. They are Italian citizens by birth.
The madrasa and family members said that Mamun Hawladar has been working in Italy for 23 years. He took his wife, Tania, with him, and their two sons were born there. However, due to the lack of a madrasa, they could not receive an Islamic education in Italy. For this reason, he brought his sons to Bangladesh and enrolled them in the traditional Jamia Arabia Darul Uloom Madrasa in Madaripur. In just seven months, the two brothers memorized the entire Quran and became Hafiz.
The expatriate father, Mamun Hawladar, said, "My two sons are Italian citizens by birth. Our family lives in Italy, but I wanted them to become Maulana. That is why I brought them to our country and enrolled them in a madrasa. I am very happy that they have become Hafiz today. I will soon take them back to Italy and then send them to Egypt to study to become Maulana. It is my dream that they become great Maulana."
