Martyr Sheikh Russell's birthday is celebrated with due dignity by the initiative of Maldives Embassy

Celebrating the 60th Happy Birthday of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Russell Day-2023

The 60th happy birthday of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and Sheikh Russell Day-2023 were celebrated at the Bangladesh High Commission in Maldives on Wednesday, October 18. To mark the day, a seminar was organized at the National University of Maldives seminar room on Wednesday at 4 pm local time. Honorable High Commissioner Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad was present as the chief guest in the seminar. Officials of India, China, Sri Lanka, Australia, United Kingdom High Commission in Maldives, officials of Maldives Foreign Ministry, human rights activists, academicians, journalists and expatriate Bangladeshi citizens attended the seminar. On the occasion of the day, Mr. Md. Sohail Parvez, Counselor (Labor) and Head of Embassy of Bangladesh High Commission and Third Secretary, Mr. Chandan Kumar Saha read out the messages given by the Honorable President and Honorable Prime Minister respectively. Then on the occasion of Sheikh Russell Day 2023, High Commission Counselor (Labor) and Head of Embassy Mr. Sohail Parvez gave a speech describing the significance of Sheikh Russell Day. He mentioned Sheikh Russell's biography, Sheikh Russell's various conversations with Bangabandhu, the killing of Sheikh Russell and other family members. He highlighted how human rights were violated through this most brutal killing. Then a special documentary film made on the occasion of Sheikh Russell Day 2023 was shown.

Then the guests present at the event expressed their feelings. They appreciated the High Commission for organizing such a program and through this program they got to know about Sheikh Russell and other members of the Bangabandhu family. They are deeply saddened to learn of this heinous murder. They expressed their opinion that this type of organization will play a role in increasing awareness against any kind of torture against children and establishing world peace in the future.

  Honorable High Commissioner Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad in his speech mentioned that the murderers killed Bangabandhu, his family and the individual child Russell but could not kill their memory and spirit. Hon'ble Prime Minister is working tirelessly to spread the memory of Sheikh Russell and make the future of Bangladeshi children suitable for a better Bangladesh.

Sheikh Russell and all the martyrs of Bangabandhu and his family who were martyred on August 15 are prayed for. Finally, the program was announced with the theme song of Sheikh Russell Day 2023.
