Operation to clear footpath encroachment in Pirganj: 5 shopkeepers fined

Limon Sarkar (Thakurgaon) district representative:

The upazila administration has conducted an operation to free the encroachment of the footpaths in Pirganj town of Thakurgaon. From Tuesday afternoon to evening, raids were conducted on both sides of the main road from the cinema hall area of the municipal city to West Chaurasta Sonali Bank and 5 shopkeepers were fined Tk 10,000 for illegally keeping gas cylinders for sale. Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Shahriar Nazir led the operation. Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Abdullah Al Rifat and Municipal Mayor Birmuktijodha Ikramul Haque were present at this time.

Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Shahriar Nazir said that some unscrupulous traders are doing business by illegally occupying the footpaths on both sides of the main road of the city. Ordinary pedestrians were suffering due to this. Those unscrupulous traders occupied the sidewalk even after there was space inside the shop. Occupiers have been given several notices by the municipality to remove the goods and structures illegally placed on the footpath. Micing has also been done. Even so, the municipal authorities want the cooperation of the upazila administration to free the occupation of the footpath as the squatters did not leave the footpath. The last upazila administration also conducted miking in the city on Monday. As this also did not work, the operation was conducted. At this time, the goods of various shops kept illegally on the pavement were removed and the establishment was ordered to be removed. During the operation, 5 shopkeepers were fined Tk 10,000 for illegally keeping gas cylinders for sale.
