Bangladesh Embassy in Maldives visited the island to inquire about the workers

A High Commission delegation led by Bangladesh High Commissioner to Maldives Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad visited Kuludhufusi Island and Nolivaranfaru Island in Maldives on 8-10 June 2023. High Commission Counselor (Labour) and First Secretary Md. Sohail Parvez and Welfare Assistant of Dutaloy, Al Mamun Pathan were present as tour companions.On June 8, Kuldhufusi City Mayor Mr. Ahmed Atif, councilors and city council officials welcomed the delegation at the airport. A courtesy meeting was later held at the City Council. In the said meeting, the cooperation of the city council was sought in the legalization of undocumented workers, protecting the rights of expatriate workers, recreation, medical care, etc. On behalf of the city council, the cooperation of Bangladesh is sought in the development of human resources and sports infrastructure.
The workplaces and residences of expatriate Bangladeshis working in Donbez Company and MTCC Company were visited on the said island and inquiries were made about their facilities. Later, Kuludhufushi Hospital was visited and there was an exchange of views with the Bangladeshi doctors working there.
Also, an exchange meeting was organized with expatriate Bangladeshis living in Kuludhufusi Island at the local Jamal Uddin School Auditorium on June 9 evening.
Counselor (Labour) Mr. Md. Sohelparvez provided various important information and instructions regarding sending remittances through legal channels, membership of Wage Earners' Welfare Board, e-passport, local laws, health protection etc. In his speech, the Honorable High Commissioner called upon the expatriate Bangladeshis to work in compliance with local laws while taking care of their own health. He requested all expatriates to send remittances to the country through legal channels. Also urges everyone to use emergency safety equipment at work.
He mentioned that along with the increase in the capacity of the country, the government is providing various facilities to the expatriates and this will increase further in the future. He urged everyone to work together to build the country.
Nolivaranfaru Island was visited on 10 June. A courtesy meeting of the delegation was held with the said Island Council. The workplaces and residences of expatriate Bangladeshis working in the said island housing project and agriculture project were visited and exchanged with them.
