Jamuna daily editor threatened, human chained in protest

A human chain and protest meeting was held to protest against the threat of Nihal Khan K Savar's BPATC quarter marriage scammer and discussed sex worker 'Kalpana Akhter Kaya', editor of the new trend online news portal Jamuna Pratidin.com and Rajshahi district correspondent of the national daily Alokit Sakal.

On August 25 at 11:00 a.m., a program was held at Bangabandhu Square in front of the District Commissioner's office under the banner of journalists of Chapainawabganj district.

Chapainawabganj Model Press Club President Moha Aktaruzzaman, Senior Journalist Hasan Ali Dolar, Journalist Md Alamgir Hossain and various print and electronic media workers spoke in the human chain and protest rally moderated by journalist Ripon Ali Rocky.

Speakers said that Kabir Hossain has been doing body business for a long time with his wife Amena Begum, Shalika Rina and two daughters Kaya and Priya inside the Savar BPATC government quarters.

Following this, an investigative report was published on the online news portal 'Jamuna Pratidin'.

After the publication of the news, the editor of the news portal Sultanul Arefin Khan threatened to kill Nihal and harass him with various cases.

The speakers present at the time considered the threat of 'Kalpana Kya' on the independent media as an attempt to suppress the voice. Besides, the journalists expressed their anger at this threat.

The speakers drew the attention of the concerned administration and demanded that the woman be quickly arrested and brought under the law and exemplary punishment.

On the other hand, various journalist organizations have demanded the arrest of Kaya in connection with the threat.

The human chain warned that if the accused woman is not arrested soon, strict action will be taken.
