Pirganj celebrates the historic Santal Rebellion Day

Rallies and discussion meetings have been held at Pirganj in Thakurgaon.

Speaking on the occasion were Upazila Women Vice Chairman Bharti Rani, Vir Muktijoddha Hafizur Rahman, Advocacy Manager ESDO Premdwip Project Shah Aminul Haque, Women Emawar Officer ESDO Premdeep Marmitaj Islam, Bairchuna High School Headmaster Zahirul Islam, Upazila Manager Prem Dwip Project Wali Economic Development Officer Prem Dwip Project Roshan Jamal Chowdhury, Pargana Parishad President Dawood Saran, Azlabad Village Union Committee General Secretary Lucas Tudu spoke among the tribal members.

 Note that the historic Santal Rebellion took place on June 30, 1855. The zamindars and moneylenders and the English officials and employees brutally exploited and oppressed the Santals. The angry Santals called for mass struggle in protest. Four brothers Sidhu, Kanu, Chand and Bhairab led the struggle.

Indigenous people take to the streets to assert their just rights. On that day, about 10,000 Santal tribesmen were martyred while fighting against the British government. Sidhu and Kanu were captured by the British forces.
