Two arrested for torturing wife in Naogaon

Police have arrested two people in the case after a video of a medieval woman torturing his wife for dowry went viral in Naogaon district.

They were arrested on Sunday, April 10 and sent to jail through the court.

According to sources, Babita Banu, daughter of Morzina, a resident of Jalam village in Kirtipur union of Naogaon Sadar upazila, got married to Zahid Ali, son of Shamim Uddin Mollah of Ganeshpur union in Manda upazila of Naogaon about a year ago. Babita Banu's father was poor and left some dowry money. This is the beginning of the danger of torture.

From last Wednesday (April 7) till 2 pm the next day, Zahid started a fight demanding a dowry of Rs 1 lakh at the persuasion of his parents. Unable to pay the dowry, he had to stay at his father's house most of the time after marriage. When the last 30,000 rupees was sent to the husband's house with a dowry, he was subjected to inhumane torture and demonic torture in a medieval manner. The video of that incident went viral through social media.

After this the administration sat motionless. The girl is admitted in the emergency department of Naogaon Sadar Hospital.

Manda police on Sunday (April 10) arrested Hajera Begum, 55, mother of husband Zahid, 55, and Shamim Mollah, father of accused Zahid, 3, in a case of abuse of women and children.

Manda Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinur Rahman said the accused in-laws No. 2 and 3 have been arrested and sent to court. Accused No. 1 Zahid Mollah is absconding. We are trying to arrest him. He will be arrested and brought to justice soon.
