Fugitive accused GMB arrested in Naogaon

The anti-terrorism unit has arrested Sanwar Hossain, 44, a fugitive convict of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (GMB) A, a banned militant group in Naogaon.

He was arrested from Chhota Chandpur village in Patnitala upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon, April 17.

Additional Superintendent of Police of the Anti-Terrorism Unit Akhiul Islam said this at a press conference at the office of the Superintendent of Police on Sunday afternoon.

The arrested Sanwar is the son of Ershad Ali of Chandpara village in Nachol upazila of Chapainawabganj district.

He told a press conference that the anti-terrorism unit had been monitoring the fugitive accused Sanwar Hossain in the anti-terrorism case of Nachol police station in Chapainawabganj for some time. At one stage, it was learned that Sanwar Hossain had changed his name to Abdullah in Patnitala Upazila, Chandpur area. There he worked as a mason and raised sheep. He was later arrested in a raid there.

He was also working to activate the old JMB from hiding in different areas of Chapainawabganj for ten years. Apart from the anti-terrorism (sentenced to death) of Nachol police station in Chapai Nawabganj district, two more arrest warrants have been suspended against him.

On November 25, 2019, the wise Additional District and Sessions Judge of Chapainawabganj sentenced three people arrested in the Salman murder case to death.

Naogaon Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan Miah and other senior police officials were present at the press conference.
