Electricity connection with bamboo poles at Faridpur; Accidents can happen at any time
Faridpur District Representative>
Electricity connection has been provided through bamboo poles in Megchami village of Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur. Hundreds of people are at risk of their lives. Moreover, major accidents can happen at any time.
Locals complained that the authorities had not taken any action despite the demand for installation of electricity poles for a long time. As a result, the locals have expressed the fear of a big accident at any time.
It can be seen at first hand that Madhyapara Khanbari in Madchapara Gorsthan Model Bazar of Megchami 1st Ward has made a risky connection through trees and bamboo bushes in these areas (WZ PDCL) Rajbari Office. Electric wires have been laid on bamboo and tree branches without installing electric poles. In many places, the bamboos are bent over. The bamboo that is leaning somewhere is supported by another bamboo. The mahogany trees around the road have been connected to the power lines. Somewhere again the wire has become entangled with herbs, creating a more risky situation.
About 100 houses have been connected to electricity by relying on bamboo poles installed on some more than one kilometer of roads. Residents of the area have been trying for electricity poles for a long time. But without arranging the poles, the authorities put bamboo and connected.
Badsha Mia, a resident of Megchami area, said, "After a cement pole was broken in front of my house, the office man came and put electricity in the mahogany tree. We have been waiting like this for more than ten years.
Many people from the same area including Shahin Khandaker, Ershad Khandaker, Rajibul Hasan and Sabbir Khan said that they have to use electricity with such risk even though they know it is risky. These connections need to be secured before any accidents can occur.
The locals also complained that they had to pay for the electricity connection in the area, not pay the bill after seeing the meter and repair the line with extra money to solve various problems.
An official of the power department, who did not want to be named, said there were no rules for providing service lines more than 100 yards away. If there is an additional distance of 100 yards, then poles must be provided. Otherwise the connection cannot be made. But in this area poles have been installed more than 200 to 300 meters away. Bamboo poles have been placed in the middle places.
Asked about this, Aminur Rahman, executive engineer of WZ PDCL Rajbari, said, "I don't know anything about this." However, I will go to the area and see the matter and solve it.
