ACC case against former mayor couple in Joypurhat,

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former mayor of Joypurhat's Akkelpur municipality Golam Mahfuz Chowdhury (retd) and his wife Kamrunnahar Shimul. Allegations of ill-gotten gains have been made in two cases.
ACC Bogra District Office Assistant Director, Nur Alam became the plaintiff and filed two cases on Monday (April 25) at around 12 noon. Moniruzzaman.
Golam Mahfuz Chowdhury Retired Former Mayor of Akkelpur Municipality. He is currently the joint general secretary of Joypurhat district Awami League. He is a resident of Alhera residential area (Sardarpara) of the district town. His wife Shimul is the assistant cashier of Joypurhat Palli Bidyut Samiti. According to the case file, former mayor Golam Mahfuz Chowdhury concealed the acquisition of movable and immovable property worth Tk 99 lak 10000 thousands and 794 BDT in his assets statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission on July 31, 2019. He has acquired and dispossessed movable and immovable property worth Rs.
Similarly, his wife Kamrunnahar Shimul has been occupying illegal assets worth Tk 36 lakh 7 thousand 184 Tk BDT They could not explain any of these resources. Sections 26 (2) and 26 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004 and two cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 4 (2) and 4 (3) of 2012 were filed.
When asked, Golam Mahfuz Chowdhury Absar said that the allegation was raised four years ago. But the case did not. Opponents are currently conspiring to make me the chairman of the district council. They have conspired and filed a case with the ACC. He has even filed a case against his wife.
ACC Bogra District Deputy Director, Moniruzzaman said the case has been filed against the accused after receiving information on known non-income assets. Legal action will be taken against them.
