5 shops burnt to ashes in Dighinala power short-circuit fire

At least five traders' shops were gutted in a fire at Dighinala in Khagrachhari district.

The fire broke out at Dighinala Government Degree College Gate area on Tuesday (April 12) at 6 pm.

The fire spread to Ramen Chakma's Srijan Computer and Study in College Gate area, Nirmal Kanti Chakma's book shop Pabartya Library, Abdul Aziz Haque's tea shop, Rakib's auto workshop, Lutfar Rahman's bicycle garage were completely burnt.

At that time, 4 laptops, 1 IPS, 1 generator, 1 photocopy machine, 3 lakh rupees in cash and at least 10 lakh rupees were lost in Srijan Computer and Study. Pabartya Library lost at least Tk 6 lakh, Rakib's auto workshop lost Tk 3 lakh, Rahman's bicycle garage lost at least Tk 150,000 and shop lost Tk 30 lakh.

Shakaria Haider, district deputy assistant director of the fire service, said no one at the Dighinala fire service station had reported the blaze. However, as the source of the fire was with the fire service, our firefighters came to the spot and with the cooperation of the locals and our two units were able to bring the fire under control with at least half an hour effort. The official said the fire was probably caused by an electrical short circuit.
