Badalgachhi UP members behave like fakirs - UNO Badalgachhi

UP members of eight unions in Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon district have been accused of misbehaving with UNO. There is anger among the UP members about this.

According to sources, an information workshop on Union Parishad (March 22 to March 24) for Union Parishad members started on Tuesday organized by the National Local Government Institute (NILG), Dhaka. The three-day workshop was attended by 97 male and female UP members from eight unions. It is being implemented by Badalgachhi Upazila Administration. On the first day in the morning, UP members were given breakfast in small packets. But the water bottle was not given.

UP members talked to each other about this. Later, the UP members got together and sent a representative of Bilashbari UP member Helal Hossain to UNO Alpana Yasmin's room to find out if there was any lunch. UNO Alpana Yasmin insulted the UP members by calling them 'street fakirs' and kicked them out of the room.

UP members said they all went to the front of his office room to talk to UNO about lunch. UNO told one to go inside. Then UP member Helal was sent as a representative. UNO treated him rudely. He termed all the UP members as 'fakirs' and said 'I will not listen to anything'. He also threatened to withhold five months salary of UP members.

This caused anger among the members. Later, they discussed the matter with others in front of the UNO office at the upazila premises. The members present continued to protest against the misconduct of UNO.

To calm them down, UNO Upazila Vice Chairman Imamul Al Hasan Titu, Mithapur UP Chairman Firoz Hossain and Kola UP Chairman Shahinur Islam called everyone through Swapan and took them to the hall room of the Upazila Parishad auditorium. Later, Upazila Chairman Shamsul Alam Khan appeared there.

When UNO returned to the hall, the UP members unanimously protested the insult. He also announced that he will not do this workshop. UNO repeatedly tried to calm them down.

Meanwhile, Upazila Parishad Chairman Shamsul Alam Khan, Vice-Chairman Imamul Al Hasan Titu and Mithapur UP Chairman Firoz Hossain also tried to calm down the members.

Speaking on behalf of the UNO, UP member Helal Hossain said, "We will have training from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. He gave us a break at 1:05 pm. We asked the engineer if we had lunch. When they left without saying a word, the pioneers said there was no provision for food. We, the 97 members, will not get so much food in one hotel at this time. And even though we were given breakfast in the morning, there was no water supply. '

Member Helal Hossain said, "When I asked UNO Sir about the matter, UNO Sir did not listen to me and said, 'Your behavior is like that of a fakir.' When I wanted to say something, he did not give me a chance to speak and got angry with me and said, "Your salary will be withheld for five months." He did not listen to me. '

Meanwhile, UP members told reporters about the incident. When the journalists went to the Upazila Parishad auditorium hall and recorded the video of the agitation, UNO security personnel confiscated the mobile phone from a journalist and deleted the video himself. The security guard said, "You have been told to leave. You go. '

Asked about this, Mithapur UP chairman Firoz Hossain said, "I went later, I can't tell the previous incident." However, I went and saw that all the members were standing outside talking to UNO. After a misunderstanding with UNO Sir and other members, they were sent away with five hundred rupees. '

Shamsul Alam Khan, chairman of the Upazila Parishad, said, "Even though the UP members were given breakfast at the workshop, they were not given water." Again, when there was no provision for lunch, the members went to the UNO in a bad mood and I heard that he was abusing the members by saying that they were behaving like fakirs. '

The Upazila Parishad chairman complained, "This UNO has been treating everyone badly since joining." And I was not informed about this workshop. '

Asked about the allegations, UNO Alpana Yasmin said, "Members were shouting before they came to my room. I explained to them that it is not right to do so. If there was something to say, one or two people could come and talk about the problem. '
