4 journalists injured in attack on journalist in Thakurgaon

In the forthcoming Thakurgaon UP elections on February 8, there have been several attacks on supporters of the ruling party and independent candidates. At least 15 people from both sides, including the Thakurgaon district representative of Independent Television and three journalists, were injured in the incident.


The injured were later rescued with the help of police administration and admitted to Thakurgaon Adhunik Sadar Hospital. The incident took place at noon on Saturday (January 29) at Mandalpara village in Senua union of Sadar upazila of Thakurgaon district. Police and eyewitnesses said supporters of government party candidate Nobel Kumar Singh and independent candidate Matiur Rahman had been campaigning at the same time in Mandalpara of Senua Union since this morning. At this time, the supporters of both the candidates got into a confrontation and at one stage they got into a fight. Later there were clashes between them. At that time, while collecting information, they attacked the journalists. Camera and mobile snatched. After receiving the news, the police brought the situation under control. The injured were rushed to Thakurgaon Adhunik Sadar Hospital. The media personnel strongly condemned the incident. In this regard, Thakurgaon Press Club President Mansur Ali said, "I call for the immediate arrest of the culprits." Md. Mojibar Rahman Sheikh, vice-president of Thakurgaon district press club, said that there is no security for media workers. An urgent appeal to the administration should be made to immediately arrest the culprits and bring them under the law and punish them. Otherwise, the journalists will not hesitate to take part in a tough movement. Emdadul Islam Bhutto, president of the Thakurgaon Reporters' Unity, said there was no security for media personnel today. He said that the culprits should be brought under the law immediately or else there will be a strong movement in the streets. Sadar Police Station OC Tanvirul Islam said he had not received any written complaint from the journalists. Action will be taken if any complaint is received.
