Voting is going on in Maheshkhali, 2 killed and 4 injured in violence

Voting for the country's 180 Union Parishad (UP) elections is underway. Voting starts at 8 am on Monday and will continue till 4 pm. Two killed and two injured in Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali and Qutubjun clashes

Besides, voting is also going on in 9 municipalities. In all of them, voting is being done through electronic voting machine (EVM). These municipalities are Bhanga in Faridpur, Debiganj in Panchagarh, Nangalkot in Comilla, Nawapara in Jessore, Sonagazi in Feni, Kabirhat in Noakhali, Boalkhali in Chittagong, Maheshkhali and Chakaria in Cox's Bazar.


In the first phase, voting was to be held on April 11 in more than three hundred and fifty UPs. It was postponed at that time due to the rise in coronavirus infection. Later on June 21, 204 UP elections were held. The rest of UP, which has been suspended due to the spread of the epidemic, is going to the polls on Monday.



A decision is expected to be made in the last week of this month on the steps and when the elections for the remaining 4,000 union councils will be held.
