 Md. Al Amin Maldives Representative,

A High Commission delegation led by Honorable High Commissioner Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad visited Mafusi Island during a courtesy meeting with the Mafusi Council and exchanged views with expatriate Bangladeshis living on the island.

This exchange meeting was held yesterday every Friday.

The President of Mafusi Council, Mr. Hassan Solah, welcomed the High Commissioner and the delegation to the Council office. After that, there was a discussion about various facilities (health care, entertainment, sports, legalization etc.) of expatriate Bangladeshis living in Mafusi and cooperation in the development of Mafusi.

An exchange meeting of the delegation of the High Commission with expatriate Bangladeshis living in Mafusi Island was held in the hall of a local school.

At the beginning of the meeting, the First Secretary of the High Commission and Head of the Embassy Mr. Md. Sohail Parvez discussed in detail about various important issues such as: quick regularization of undocumented workers, sending remittances through legal channels, membership of the welfare board, local laws, health protection, etc.

Opinions were given on behalf of expatriate workers to stop harassment and increase facilities at the airport in Bangladesh.

Hon'ble High Commissioner in the beginning of his speech mentioned about the important contribution of remittance fighters in the economic development of the country. He urged undocumented workers to take up efforts to become legalized quickly. He also requested expatriate Bangladeshis to protect their health, ensure safety at work, send remittances through legal channels and abide by local laws and regulations. The Honorable High Commissioner mentioned that with the development of the country, the opportunities for expatriates will increase. He requested everyone in the country and abroad to work together to build Bangabandhu's golden Bangladesh. At the end of the meeting Al Mamun Pathan, welfare assistant of the embassy on behalf of the High Commission, distributed information-rich leaflets among all the Bangladeshi expatriates present.
