Two killed, 20 injured in Naogaon bus-tractor collision

Two persons, including a bus driver, were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a tractor on Badalgachhi-Najipur road in Naogaon.

At least 20 people were injured in the incident. The accident took place on Badalgachhi-Najipur road in Paynari area of ​​the upazila around 8:15 pm on Wednesday. The condition of several of the injured is critical.

The dead are; Passenger Abdur Rashid, 38, son of Abdul Jabbar of Soasa village in Badalgachhi upazila and bus driver Shri Girij Pahan, 35, son of Jitu Pahan of the same village.

Mahadevpur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azam Uddin Mahmud confirmed the accident.

According to local sources, the passenger bus was coming to Naogaon Baludanga from Agradbigun of Dhamairhat upazila of the district via Nazipur-Mataji-Badalgachhi of Patnitala upazila. On the way, a tractor coming from the opposite direction collided head-on in the Pionary area of ​​Badalgachhi-Najipur road. The tractor overturned and fell into the canal below the road.

On the other hand, the bus collided with a mango tree and the front part was twisted. Two people, including the bus driver, were killed on the spot. At least 20 people were injured in the accident. The injured were rushed to Badalgachhi Upazila Health Complex and Naogaon Sadar Hospital. However, police claimed that the death toll could rise further.

Mahadevpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azam Uddin Mahmud said two bodies were recovered from the spot. The death toll could rise further. The injured have been shifted to Badalgachhi Upazila Health Complex, Naogaon Sadar Hospital and the injured have been shifted to Rajshahi and Bogra Medical Colleges.
