The Italian embassy in Rome will not accept applications for change of passport after April 26

Minhaj Hossain from Italy:

About 10,000 Bangladeshis living in different countries of Europe are being deprived of validity due to their passports. Most of them are Italians. Bangladesh's ambassador to Italy said, "We have to work according to the government law." No further application for change of name of passport will be accepted after 26th April.

About 10,000 Bangladeshis have come to Europe in search of a livelihood by changing their name, address, date of birth and even religion. Expatriate Bangladeshis detained in asylum centers in different countries, including Italy, are being deprived of legitimacy only because they do not have passports. More than 500 Bangladeshis have lodged their complaints online with the All European Bangla Press Club, an organization of mainstream family journalists in Europe.

All European Bangla Press Club and Bangla Press Club Italy held a formal meeting with Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy Md. Shamim Ahsan on passport issue and other issues. "We are accepting applications for some amendments as per government rules," the ambassador said. But no change is accepted for more than five years. However, this activity will remain in force till April 26 this year. If the government does not extend the deadline, it is not possible to accept any more applications after that date.

Bangladeshis living in Italy have called for resolving the passport problem of illegal immigrants.

President of Bangla Press Club Italy Shaon Ahmed, General Secretary Lavanya Chowdhury, Organizing Secretary of All European Bangla Press Club Minhaj Hossain, Treasurer Humayun Kabir, Information and Research Secretary Jumana Mahmud, Member Hasan Mahmud and other officials were present at the meeting.

Among the officials present at the Rome embassy were Councilor Erfanul Haque, Jasim Uddin, First Secretary Saiful Islam and Second Secretary Ashfaqur Rahman.
