Despite the approval of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, New Year books have not yet reached the students of Darul Arkam Madrasa across the country under the Islamic Foundation due to the complexity of the project side.
Since the opening of the educational institution on September 12, 2021, the teachers have continued to teach in the Darul Arkam Madrasas established under the Islamic Foundation in accordance with the rules of hygiene. Couldn't collect books. As a result, thousands of students are still eagerly waiting for new books.
Since January 2020, 220 teachers have been living a dehumanized life without getting salary for two long years. In the meantime, 5 teachers have died. Their orphaned children are also deprived of the minimum humanitarian treatment of the Islamic Foundation.
It may be mentioned that the Darul Arkam Madrasa project of the Islamic Foundation was mentioned by the government as a contribution of the government in the inauguration ceremony of 50 model mosques in the first phase of Mujib Centenary in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on June 10, 2021.
He also made it clear in various speeches that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved and allocated funds for the project. On the occasion of Fitr, he thanked the Prime Minister in Parliament for providing grant at the rate of Tk.
But the project mentioned has not seen the light of day. Five teachers have died in the last two years due to non-receipt of salary allowance. Their families are also being subjected to extreme harassment for compensation as the project has not been passed.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Foundation itself is feeling the lack of Islamic ideology in view of the plight of the teachers and staff employed in the madrasas established under the Islamic Foundation on the pretext of implementing the project.
It is to be noted that setting a rare precedent in history, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina established 1010 Darul Arkam Madrasas in each of the two upazilas of the country simultaneously in 2016 under the Islamic Foundation of the Ministry of Religion. The project gained its reputation. It was named 'Darul Arkam Ibtedai Madrasa' after the first educational institution of Islam.
The signboards of each madrasa bear the words 'Founding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina'.
Alhaj Abdul Wahab, landlord of Chandrakhali Darul Arkam Ibtedayi Madrasa in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat district and Awami League leader told Inquilab yesterday, As the project under process has not been passed, the teachers are in financial difficulties due to debt. Parents are in uncertainty with their children.
He sought the immediate intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to expedite the implementation of the project titled 'Establishment and Management of Darul Arkam Ibtedayi Madrasa' and to continue the educational activities including payment of arrears of salaries to teachers and provision of new books to the waiting students.
Asked by a madrasa teacher (who did not want to be named), he said, "I have been living a dehumanized life for 25 months without getting any salary or allowance. Having to run the family with children with great difficulty. I can not say anything to anyone ashamed, I can not sign!
Advocate Abu Bakar Siddique, former central leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League and member of Awami League Legal Sub-Committee, said that Darul Arkam Madrasa was established through the Islamic Foundation of the Ministry of Religion. I started the educational activities in the madrasa by constructing infrastructure with the help of the locals with 5 percent of the land and with my own funds.
Despite the approval of the Prime Minister and the allocation of funds, the project has not been passed yet due to the influence of invisible energy, the locals and parents are extremely angry. He said there was no point in setting up an education project with 1010 institutions including permanent infrastructure for just two years.
